Feel Confident with Your Smile in 2019

One of the first things people notice about you is your smile. So when you’re self-conscious about your teeth, people may get the mistaken impression that you’re dour or moody. This affects friendships, intimacy, and even career opportunities. So brightening your smile is one of the best things you can do. To the get new year off to a good start, you don’t need affirmations or gym memberships (though they can help). You just need a good dentist.
People who are scared to smile (or whose ‘shy’ grins are frequently hidden behind their palms) often have one of three issues – discoloration, misalignment, or gaps. Here at Dental Avenue, we can easily repair ‘crooked teeth’ using Invisalign. They’re invisible braces that can correct your smile and boost your confidence in six months to a year. You’ll see the difference in weeks, but a complete treatment consists of new aligners every two weeks.

Whiter and Brighter

As for poor tooth colouring, your selective measures depend on a few things. Your dentist can advise you on what works best, but basically, if all your teeth are stained, then whitening is best, but if it’s just one or two, individual colour treatment works better. We use Ultradent to lighten your teeth. They may not get starch-white, but they’ll be several shades lighter, making a distinct difference. Plus, we ensure your enamel and dentin aren’t damaged.
At our dental clinics, whitening is a thorough, three-step process, and we’ve perfected it over time. But we can’t lighten fillings or crowns, so if you have a lot of those, we recommend tooth-coloured restoration instead. This process assesses the shade of your natural tooth, then treats the discoloured one to match the rest. Your smile won’t be whiter, but it will be more uniform, and that can help you get your confidence back.
Remember though, teeth stain naturally with age (and can also be affected by coffee, tea, nicotine, red wine, and other staining agents), so even after a whitening or restoration process, your smile can darken. Good oral hygiene helps, as does visiting your dentist twice a year for check-ups and/or professional cleaning. It cleanses deeper than daily brushing, and your smile will be far brighter for it.

The Permanent Solution

A third option for discolouration is veneers. Porcelain crowns are permanently fitted on top of your teeth. Veneers don’t crack or stain, even when you consume tannin-loaded products. They’re also more pricy, so usually, patients will stick to their visible front teeth rather than all thirty-two. And veneers aren’t just for colour. They can also correct gaps, cracks, and gum alignment. The veneer will fuse onto your tooth, so you’ll be measured first, to get the right fit.
Finally, if you have gaps after an accident, extraction, or natural maturing, we can sort you out with dental implants. These could be fitted in a single ‘hole’ or multiple gaps, but each implant is done individually. Our dentists will fuse a titanium base to your jaw, then give it a few months to fuse with your bone. Titanium has minimal allergic reactions, though it’s costly. To finish off, a porcelain crown is screwed to the top of your metal base, mimicking organic teeth. You can brush and floss your implants just like regular teeth, and the porcelain doesn’t stain.
