Veneers

A veneer is a thin custom-made shell made from porcelain or composite resin that is bonded permanently over an existing tooth to enhance its appearance. An efficient treatment to improve the look of your smile, veneers offer a permanent and efficient dental solution to improve the overall appearance of the front surface of your teeth.

Both veneer material options will update your smile and it is best to talk with your dentist to conclude which would be a better option for you. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than composite resin veneers and mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. A positive of composite resin veneers is that they require less removal of the tooth before placement and are an appropriate choice if the changes needed are minor.

Veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of your teeth. A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured tooth or to lighten your front teeth.

A veneer can also make a chipped tooth look whole again. The porcelain covers the whole of the front of the tooth, with a thicker section replacing the broken part. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps between the teeth. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others. Patients with gaps between their front teeth or teeth that are chipped or worn may consider veneers. Generally, veneers will last for many years, and the technique has shown remarkable longevity when properly performed.

A veneer takes at least two visits. The first is to prepare the tooth and match the shade, and the second is to fit it. Before bonding it in place, your dentist will show you the veneer on your tooth to make sure you are happy with it. Bonding a veneer in place is done with a special adhesive, which holds it firmly on the tooth.

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your teeth and would like to explore options that can assist in improving your appearance, veneers may be the solution for you. Expertly matched veneers can give your smile the proportions and evenness you have always wanted. With access to the latest products on the market, our Maroubra dentists are highly qualified and experienced to help you and your family achieve beautiful smiles.

Veneers Faqs

This depends on how many teeth are being treated. Since the cost of veneers can vary, we recommend that you make an appointment with us to discuss your options.

With appropriate dental care and hygiene, veneers will usually last around 10 years, but some can last up to 20 if looked after well.

The process of getting veneers should not be painful. Our dentists will make sure your mouth is numb with a local anaesthetic and can offer sedation if you feel nervous about the procedure.  After the anaesthetic wears off you may have some soreness around the gums and possibly the jaw area.

Crowns cover your teeth like a cap. A veneer is a thin shell that is applied to the front of your tooth.

Dental veneers are a great solution for people with discoloured, worn down, chipped, misaligned, uneven or irregularly shaped teeth.
