Things you may not know about Invisalign

A child’s body grows at different rates, so while everybody’s baby teeth fall out from around age 6, their permanent teeth will erupt at their own pace, and the effect on their smile will depend on a lot of other factors, like the structure of the cheeks, chin, and jaw. That’s how they may end up needing braces to correct any issues with spaces and even out their smile.

Invisalign is becoming a popular request for dentists because it does a great job while resolving many of the challenges that come with conventional braces. Invisalign is sometimes referred to as ‘invisible braces’, though technically, they’re aligners rather than braces. Here are some interesting (and quite fun) facts you may not be aware of.

It looks better in photos

You know how a model’s teeth sparkle in a TV ad or photo shoot? Sometimes, a cartoon will even accompany that glint with a shimmering sound effect. You know the one. You’re probably hearing it right now. Well, it turns out Invisalign can produce the same effect in your selfies, and that’s before you use the filter. Invisalign are clear and glossy, which means they catch the light in your camera flash and make your smile glisten. This can be especially gratifying if you had adopted a closed-mouth smile over the years. Now you can happily show off your pearly whites!

It works faster than conventional braces

As a teenager (or a classmate of teenagers) you may feel braces are forever. A patient will typically keep them in for two years or more, which is an eternity in teenage reckoning. Invisalign – on the other hand – will straighten your teeth in six months to a year, so you’ll be done in half the time. Plus, because you put on a new set of aligners every two weeks, the transitional period feels much shorter psychologically. And you’ll be seeing your dentist every six to eight weeks for review, which seems to hasten your tooth correction period.

It’s easier to look after

In many ways, Invisalign is like a facial ornament. It feels no different from make-up, an earring, or nasal jewellery, in the sense that you can take them out whenever you want. The main difference is they go with everything, so you don’t have to change them when you swap your outfit. You also need to keep them in overnight. However, because you can remove them when you want to eat, drink, brush your teeth, (or enjoy a goodnight kiss,) they’re easier to maintain.

Whenever you take them out to eat, you can soak them in denture cleaner, or in the specially made Invisalign cleaning formula. When you brush your teeth, you can brush your aligners using your toothbrush or any brush with soft, non-abrasive bristles. Don’t use soap or toothpaste. Rinse in clean water, or in the dental cleaning fluid they were soaked in. Carry the Invisalign case around, so you can store them when they’re (rarely) not on your teeth.
