Is root canal treatment painful?
Initially, you may experience pain and swelling from an infection. Damage to the bone surrounding your tooth can also result.
The actual root canal procedure itself causes no pain as you are given a local anaesthetic before the procedure begins. However, because the treatment is performed upon an inflamed area it can be sensitive and can cause discomfort when the anaesthetic wears off. Whilst it may seem uncomfortable at first, the procedure will actually relieve the pain and discomfort.
