White Fillings
Tooth Coloured Restoration – “White Fillings”
Most people will require a filling at some point in their lives. Fillings are used to repair decaying or damaged teeth.
White fillings, also known as composite fillings, have revolutionised dental care, providing a treatment option that can be colour-matched to your teeth. This provides a natural looking, and aesthetically pleasing restoration that is camouflaged with the existing tooth enamel. Another key benefit of white fillings is that they are easy to mould. This allows for an exact fit when used to fill a tooth and gives a natural looking shape.
Composite fillings can be placed quickly, providing an affordable and durable restoration that will look similar to a regular tooth. We make sure to complete the procedure comfortably and effectively so you may return to your life as soon as possible. Depending on the patient and the positioning of where the filling will go, we can complete the treatment in as little as 20 – 30 minutes.
Depending on which part of the tooth is being filled the dentist may need to numb the surrounding area with local anaesthetic before filling the cavity. When the anesthetic wears off it is normal to experience minor sensitivity but this will subside over time. We recommend patients resume eating only when the anaestheitc wears off as you do not want to run the risk of accidentally biting your lip, cheek or tongue. It is also a good idea to avoid eating anything chewy or crunchy for at least 24 hours as whilst composite fillings are very strong they may be more susceptible to damage immediately after your procedure.
It is important to note that composite fillings are sensitive to staining just like regular teeth. So, if you have had a composite filling on your front teeth it is best to avoid things like coffee, tea and smoking to ensure your teeth remain in good condition. If you are concerned about staining speak to one our helpful dentists. It is best to discuss with your dentist what foods you may want to avoid in your diet to minimise colour changes.
