What are Crowns?

Dental crowns, also referred to as dental caps or tooth caps, are designed to cover the tooth on which they are permanently attached. Dentists make use of crowns to rebuild broken or decayed teeth that may not have other dental resolutions available to them. Crowns can strengthen teeth, as well as positively contributing to the tooth’s cosmetic appearance.

Crowns are made from moulds of your teeth, which are formed by your dentist and sent to a dental laboratory.

There are a number of different types of crowns, including porcelain crowns, porcelain-bonded-to-metal crowns, gold alloy crowns, and acrylic crowns. Our dentists will be able to recommend the most appropriate form of crown, depending on both the tooth involved and your personal preferences.
